Research

From March 31, 2023 through March 15, 2025, I am working on a grant with Badrul Chowdhury of UNC Charlotte and Mesut Baran of NC State University along with three graduate students in conjunction with Duke Energy examining electric vehicle charging and innovative rates to encourage charging when accounting for impacts on the electricity grid, as well as carbon emissions.

I also have research on solar pricing.

The Energy Journal 2023 My latest publication in The Energy Journal on solar pricing

Here’s my publication in The Energy Journal on the effect of electricity prices on market share of energy-efficient appliances.

The Energy Journal 2021Download
This publication was done with an interdisciplinary group of engineers and economists examining the effects of solar PV on the costs of operating the electricity grid.
Renewable Energy: The International JournalDownload

I have several publications with colleagues in China. Here is a recent one on carbon emissions and planting of trees as a carbon sink to store those emissions.

Land

China measures energy intensity, the ratio of carbon emissions to GGDP, to indicate progress towards meeting its carbon emissions goals.

Climate and Development

Here is one on the effect of attracting industries to central and western China on diminishing agricultural land.

Journal of Land Use StudiesDownload
I participated on a panel at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Power 21 conference, addressing Electric Power Generation Changes and Retirements.
